Market research in India

Market research surveys that reach people in their own language

Test a product idea, a price or a brand with the people who will actually buy it, from metros to villages. Build in English, let them answer in 12 languages, and read results while the survey is still running.

  • Geo-targeting to gram panchayat
  • Live reach estimate
  • Quality checks on every response
  • Breakdowns by language

How it works

A typical market research project

  1. Start from a template

Consumer insights, pricing, concept tests, brand awareness and more — every question can be edited.

  2. Define the audience

Set age, gender and location down to district, block or gram panchayat, add profile filters, and check the estimated reach before you publish.

  3. Collect responses

Share the survey with your own customers and communities. When paid surveys are on, panel suppliers can also bid to deliver respondents.

  4. Analyse and present

Compare segments in the dashboard, then hand stakeholders a branded PDF or work with the raw XLSX.

Why language matters for research in India

A questionnaire in English reaches a narrow slice of India. People who are more comfortable in Hindi, Tamil or Odia either skip it or answer without fully understanding the question. Letting each person answer in their own language widens who you hear from and makes the answers easier to trust.

Built-in safeguards for cleaner data

  • Attention-check questions and answer-pattern checks
  • Duplicate and repeat-device blocking (one complete per device per survey)
  • Speeders and impossible completion times are flagged
  • Respondents outside your target are screened out before they answer the main survey

Plan the numbers first

Use the free sample size calculator to see how many completes you need for the margin of error you can accept, then set that as your survey's target.

Common questions

Is SurveySetu free?

Joining is free and there is no subscription. You can publish free surveys today; they have a response cap, shown on the publish screen. Paid, pay-per-complete surveys are paused for now.

Can I target a specific state, district or village?

Yes. Targeting goes from state to district, block and gram panchayat, with a location screener question so respondents confirm where they live. You see the estimated number of matching respondents before you publish.

Where do the respondents come from?

From the people you share the survey with (WhatsApp, QR posters, social media, email) and from SurveySetu's own respondents who match your audience. When paid surveys are on, panel suppliers can bid to deliver respondents too.

How does the translation work?

You write the survey in English. When a respondent picks another language, the questions and options are machine-translated into it, checked to be in that language's script, and cached. If a translation service fails, that line shows in English until it is translated. You choose which of the 12 languages to offer and which one opens first.

How do I know the data is genuine?

Every response passes duplicate, device, speed and attention checks, and answers that fail are not counted. When you buy completes from a panel supplier you also get a review window to reject poor completes with a reason.
