Political surveys and opinion polls for wards, constituencies and panchayats

Understand local issues and voter sentiment with surveys targeted to a ward, assembly constituency, block or gram panchayat. Respondents answer in their own language, and a location screener confirms where they live.

  • Ward to constituency targeting
  • Location screener
  • Neutral civic templates
  • 12 languages

Follow election lawThe Election Commission of India and State Election Commissions restrict publishing opinion-poll and exit-poll results during notified election periods, including for panchayat and municipal elections (for example, the 48 hours before polling closes). Check the current notification for your election. SurveySetu's terms require you to follow these rules and may pause surveys that break them.

How it works

How a civic survey runs

  1. Start neutral

Templates cover ward issues, constituency trackers, candidate favourability, panchayat elections, voter awareness and representative report cards. Edit the wording to stay neutral and non-leading.

  2. Target the area

Choose state, district, block, ward or gram panchayat. A location screener asks respondents where they live, and people outside the area are screened out.

  3. Collect responses

Share the survey locally on WhatsApp and with QR posters; people answer in their own language on any phone.

  4. Read the results

See issue rankings and preferences by area, age and gender as they arrive. Keep the election-period rules in mind before you publish anything.

Rules for political questions on SurveySetu

  • Questions about political opinions must say why you are asking and must be optional
  • No respondents under 18
  • No asking for passwords, OTPs, card numbers, Aadhaar numbers or bank details
  • No deceptive surveys, push-polling or content that promotes hatred or violence
  • You are responsible for complying with election law, including the Model Code of Conduct

Why local language matters most here

Civic surveys only work if the people of a ward or village can answer them. A respondent in Odisha answering in Odia, or in Telangana answering in Telugu or Urdu, gives you their real view instead of a guess at an English question.

Common questions

Are opinion polls allowed in India?

Conducting surveys is allowed, but publishing opinion-poll and exit-poll results is restricted during notified election periods by the Election Commission of India and State Election Commissions. Check the current notification for your election before you share any results.

Can I target one ward or gram panchayat?

Yes. Targeting goes down to block, ward and gram panchayat level, with a location screener that confirms where each respondent lives.

Does SurveySetu take sides?

No. SurveySetu is a neutral platform. The civic templates never name a party or candidate, and surveys that deceive or manipulate respondents are removed.

How does the translation work?

You write the survey in English. When a respondent picks another language, the questions and options are machine-translated into it, checked to be in that language's script, and cached. If a translation service fails, that line shows in English until it is translated. You choose which of the 12 languages to offer and which one opens first.

Is SurveySetu free?

Joining is free and there is no subscription. You can publish free surveys today; they have a response cap, shown on the publish screen. Paid, pay-per-complete surveys are paused for now.
