Kannada on SurveySetu: the details
- Kannada is written in the Kannada script. SurveySetu shows it with the phone's built-in Kannada font, so respondents don't download anything extra.
- Questions and answer options are machine-translated into Kannada, checked to really be in Kannada script, and cached, so everyone answering in Kannada sees the same wording.
- Place names in targeting and location questions are localised too, using their district and state as context.
- Setu can read each question aloud on tap with the phone's own Kannada voice. If a phone has no Kannada voice installed, the text still shows; only the read-aloud is unavailable.

Do I have to write my survey in Kannada?
No. You build the survey in English and SurveySetu translates it into Kannada automatically when a respondent picks Kannada. You don't need a translator or a second version of the survey.
Can respondents type their answers in Kannada?
Yes. Open-text answers come back exactly as the respondent typed them, in Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) or any other language, and choice answers from every language are counted together in the same chart.
Can I make Kannada the default language?
Yes. In the survey's language settings, offer Kannada (with or without the others) and star it as the default, so the survey opens in Kannada for everyone. Respondents can still switch language at the top of the screen.
Is the machine translation always perfect?
No machine translation is. Keep questions short and plain, avoid idioms and abbreviations, and open your survey link in the language yourself (or ask a native speaker) before you share it widely. If a translation service is briefly unavailable, a line can show in English until it is translated.
