Create a survey in Urdu
Write your survey in English. People who are more at home in Urdu pick اردو and answer every question in it, on any phone — no translator, no second copy of the survey.
What respondents see
The same question, in Urdu
The screen on the right uses SurveySetu's real Urdu interface text. The question is an example of the kind of translation respondents get; your own questions are machine-translated when someone picks Urdu.

آداب! ⏱ اس میں تقریباً 3 منٹ لگیں گے۔ کوئی بھی جواب صحیح یا غلط نہیں ہوتا۔
How it works
Running a survey for Urdu speakers
Build in English
Use the builder or a template. Short, plain sentences translate best.
Offer Urdu
In the survey's language settings, offer Urdu — alone or with others — and star it as the default if most of your audience reads it.
Respondents answer in Urdu
The survey opens with a language picker; respondents can switch language at the top of the screen at any time.
Results in one place
Choice answers from every language add up in the same charts, with a breakdown by language. Typed answers arrive exactly as written.
Urdu on SurveySetu: the details
- Urdu is written in the Perso-Arabic (Nastaliq) script. SurveySetu shows it with the phone's built-in Urdu font, so respondents don't download anything extra.
- Questions and answer options are machine-translated into Urdu, checked to really be in Perso-Arabic script, and cached, so everyone answering in Urdu sees the same wording.
- Place names in targeting and location questions are localised too, using their district and state as context.
- Setu can read each question aloud on tap with the phone's own Urdu voice. If a phone has no Urdu voice installed, the text still shows; only the read-aloud is unavailable.
- Urdu is a right-to-left script. Keep questions for Urdu readers short: long sentences that mix English words and numbers read awkwardly in any right-to-left language.
Questions about surveys in Urdu
Do I have to write my survey in Urdu?
No. You build the survey in English and SurveySetu translates it into Urdu automatically when a respondent picks Urdu. You don't need a translator or a second version of the survey.
Can respondents type their answers in Urdu?
Yes. Open-text answers come back exactly as the respondent typed them, in Urdu (اردو) or any other language, and choice answers from every language are counted together in the same chart.
Can I make Urdu the default language?
Yes. In the survey's language settings, offer Urdu (with or without the others) and star it as the default, so the survey opens in Urdu for everyone. Respondents can still switch language at the top of the screen.
Is the machine translation always perfect?
No machine translation is. Keep questions short and plain, avoid idioms and abbreviations, and open your survey link in the language yourself (or ask a native speaker) before you share it widely. If a translation service is briefly unavailable, a line can show in English until it is translated.
